It's time for another State of the Fic Address, in which I tell you how things are going in [livejournal.com profile] mhalachaiswords' ficland, and you ask any questions you want about my ongoing fics. The reason it's time for a SotFA is that I'm once again stuck on Inevitable 67, and need a break from the headbanging and the wailing. And the story too.

Works in progress

Inevitable (AB/HP): It's my baby, and it's consuming most of my mental attention. As I said above, I'm working on chapter 67, which will be out this weekend, even if I have to tie the author to a chair. Oh, wait. Never mind.

So, I suppose this is a good place for the announcement: The final chapter tally will be 80. So, including the currently-being-worked-on chapter 67, that's 14 chapters to go. The action and adventure will pick up!... in chapter 71. From there, it's non-stop action. I'm getting tired just thinking about it. So, I'll be spending most of my fic energy there.

Switchback (AB): My most depressing story. I love it so. Once I get done with Inevitable, I intend to take up Switchback as my main story (I can't write Switchback and Inevitable at the same time; the Anitas get confused in my head and they are very, very different people). It's going to be long and plot-filled and all that jazz, being all about Anita and what makes her tick. It's also my only big AB story at the moment.

Magnolia (AB/XMen): I've completed 3/5 chapters, and 2 are left. Chapter 4 is mostly done... it's not going to be a swashbuckler, but more of a character study. As characters are, um, studied. I plan to complete this before XMen 3 comes out on May 26, which shouldn't be too strenuous a deadline.

Balancing Act (AB/SG1) : 2/8 chapters are complete. The story is going to start zooming in the next chapter, when mini-Jack meets a certain young necromancer, there's a cameo appearance from an SGC personnel member, and so on. The ending wasn't really clear in my mind until a few days ago, but now I have an excellent conclusion to the story. So much more sense than the original plan, and very IC for Jack. Plus, guns.

This story will be worked on in between chapters of Inevitable, and should be done before the end of the summer.

Promises (FF/MG): The next part of Promises (it only has two parts) will be up next week. The second part is told from Inara's point of view, and will be rather longer than Mal's part. It will deal with Inara's recovery and a decision she has to make.

Candlelight (AB/BtVS): .... I know, I know, it's my longest-running story to date, but the story end as it stands feels a little weak. I have no intention of abandoning this, it's still actively in the mind-mill, but I can't make any promises.

The following stories are for the time being on hiatus (which means I'm not abandoning them, but have no plans to pick them up in the near future):
Letter Box
Shop Talk
The 'Me' in Team

And lastly, all those Ficlette Fiasco things are still being worked on as well! Some day, I promise!

As soon as I can figure out a way to have the story end satisfactorily, I'll get back to it. Buffy's being obstinate, again.

Russell/Holmes yay!

Thanks. I think I'll go pour a beer over my brain. Or, alternately, pour it down my throat.

Well, by pouring beer down your throat you're really just giving it the scenic route trip to your brain. Might as well let your digestive tract enjoy it, too.

The fact that I just said that ought to be indication enough that it's time for bed...

I ever tell you guys why I like beer? Because "beer" and my first name have the same letters, only in a different order.

sign from god!

And I like giving this beer a scenic trip. It's young and local, it needs one last fling.

Well, I have a series of interludes, short stories as it were, in the Inevitable universe for after the series ends. Sadly, I cannot tell you how that goes, for I may spoil the end of IN, but it will happen :)

No comment on pairings :P

I'm squirming like a puppy. I really need to curb that.
Wow, only 14 chapters left. I'm having a hard time thinking of it ever being done. You've been writing it for, what, over a year now?
I'm looking forward to the end of Promises. I don't read enough Inara PoV.

I started posting Inevitable on Feb. 2, 2005. Over a year ago. It seems like.... well, longer than that :)

There's not a lot of good Inara POV out there... at least, from what I've seen. I'm facinated by the character.

I don't think I've mentioned before that I absolutely LOVE Balancing Act. It's probably my favourite of all your stories (though it's close to Inevitable since that is long enough it can actually overwhem my entire life). Not only does it fulfill two of my current main addictions (meaning Stargate and your fic in general), but I think your MiniJack voice is absolutely perfect. I can totally see all of it really going on in his head exactly the way you write it. So, major props for the characterization there. Plus, Richard. 'nuff said. :D

Have to agree, here. I like Inevitable and Switchback a lot, but Balancing Act is just all kinds of cool. I'd love to see more of that universe, I'd think the SGC could use the kind of things a lycanthrope could do....

I'm going to be addressing this in an upcoming chapter, and why we haven't seen any werewolves at the SGC... I'll just say that it's something that Jack is two minds about :)

*g* Thanks! I write mini-Jack like big Jack, only... mini. Jack's got such a rich backstory, the "hero" of the piece, that I find him rather easy to write.

And Richard. It's fun.

I'm glad my first foray into SG1 (okay, not first, but the last one was when I was 18 and we'll never talk about it again) is going over well. But really, how could it not? I can cross anything with AB, it seems, and that makes so much fun!

Wow, I've fallen completely in love with Inevitable! It's very well written, the characters are so complex, and the scenes feel so real. Your writing is striking (many times moving) and the insights into the character's heads are always provocative.

I especially love the idea that Ginny could be a horcrux and the way you've shown how it's affected her (poor girl). It never occured to me, but now that you've pointed it out, it seems like just the thing that JKR would throw at us in book 7. Again, very well done and I'm already aching for the next chapter!!!

Thanks for the lovely compliments! I am really loving this story.

The Ginny-as-Horcrux idea makes sense, but I suspect it's not something JKR will do, as it won't fit the "Love is the answer" theme, which I suspect will be the answer to defeating Voldemort. Although I'm not going at that angle in my story; it's not quite the Anita Blake-verse style.

Here's some warm happy thoughts to help you get past your writer's block.

I have no TV and I type fast :) And I've got a lot of free time on my hands these days.

It's not writer's *block*, per say, more like writer's mud. Hard to slog through :D

Ah, writers block. A pain in the butt. But we're all obsessed with your ficcies so I don't think you have to worry about any of us really whining . . .much that is.

And omg, did I see an icon from Doctor Who, with the werewolf eppie. Cause *squeals* Everyone is starting to watch the new DW! Squeeage. First I see Jinni writing her lovely ficcies on [livejournal.com profile] time_and_chips and now iconage.

As for the blocking, i feel you. Though for me it's with icons. I didn't have many in the [livejournal.com profile] rose_stills challenge last week. It made me sad. I got 'em this week though. Gotta love Rose. And I get to make this week's banners. Maybe the banner made me giddy and I should just offer up to make 'em more often. Heh.

it's the "much" part that I'm thinking of :D

And yes, that was a Dr. Who icon. Although I don't actually watch the show, I just scammed the icon b/c I needed a cool werewolf icon. I hate to admit this, but I don't actually *get* the idea behind Dr. Who. How are there 10 of them?

The blocking... oh, how I hates it. Right now, I have the idea in my head for the chapter, and actuallly have almost 8,000 words for the chapter and still had two scenes left. In the car tonight, however, I decided that having Harry made a mental leap to get to a certain conclusion was too big of a leap, and he didn't have the evidence he needed. However, I still have to write one of those scenes. As an aside, I hate Kreatcher.

I will say this about Dr. Who and Dr. Who icons = The Barty Crouch Jr. Dr. is hawt.

There's a simple explanation for the 10 doctors. He's an alien. It pretty much explains itself. Heh. Time Lords just regenerate, change into a new body, when that body is about to die. Or did die. He can only do it 12 times so only 13 doctors will ever be around.

Although you really don't have to get the whole reasons, just know a few things like he can travel through time, knows over 2 billion languages, which his ship translates for the rest of us, he's over 900 years old, and he likes to meddle in time. Yeah, thats half of it anyway. ^^

And if you liked the icon, you should *so* see that episode. Werewolf on the run and Queen Victoria with a gun. It's all good fun. *snerk* I love the last bit of lines in that eppie.

David Tennant is hot in all forms. *swoon*

Awesome, thanks. That clears up *lots*. So when do they change Doctors? When the former actor wants to leave the show?

I need to see a lot of things. THanks to the wonder of DVDs, I can! Oh, I less-than-three the DVDs.
